2008 TRIP TO HAITI

Last year we took a trip to Haiti, during which we were able to visit Haiti right after storms had killed over 600 people.

Our trip was short due to severe conditions that prevented our plane from landing but we were able to do quite a few things in a short amount of time.

SCHOOLS

Last year the we traveled to Haiti and had the privilege of visiting a small school in the town of Mirbalais. In the town we visited a small school which we decided to support. The school currently houses a little over 200 students from grades K to 8th grade.
We are in the process of stabilizing funds for the teachers as well as trying to provide the means with which to feed the students. Many students attend class without any food from their parents in hopes of making it to the capital.

A country without ease of access to education is at a loss and most importantly destroys itself at the roots as growth and innovation are killed along with the potential creativity of generations to come. With the world as competitive as it is, education is what gives our children a chance to compete fairly.

The teachers do not cost more than $600 US per month, with the current economic condition of the students, payments to the teachers are hard to come by. We would like to pay our teachers competitively in order to get qualified instructors who can help the students transfer to schools offering secondary education.

Below are our goals for the Mirbalais school:

  • Sponsor teachers monthly

  • Find sponsors for school lunch program

  • Recruit more qualified teachers for the school

  • Align primary school with secondary school program or build one if none exist in the vicinity of the supported schools

  • Make upgrades to the school building or build a new building as the current one is within a church
